Lissa Rankin is amazing, I will check that book out! For spiritual practice, I also love reading 'Comfortable with Uncertainty' by Pema Chodron.
Pema Chodron
I love this book! Often recommend it to my clients
Spiritual connection is my favorite. I practice it by meditating and remaining open, loving and calm. And by reading articles and books re: practices in spirituality. or any great reads to stop my mind from spinning out re: cancer, treatments, etc.
I also love to start my day by digging in to words that guide me and set the tone for my day. I am loving reading everyone's comments because sometimes I get away from it and I am reminded to revisit and don't lose the beauty of daily practices. Thanks for the reminder!!
Spiritual connection is also my favorite factor. I meditate each morning & evening, read Unity’s Daily Word, do Course in Miracles Workbook, read Dr. David R. Hawkins books especially Healing and Recovery and use Spring Forest Qigong as taught by Master Lin. These are my mainstays and I am inspired as well by the beautiful spirits that each person featured in Kelly Turner’s book reveal in their words and actions.
Lynn, so many great resources here, thank you! This community is so rich in resources that I've started to make my own list - I can never have too many books that take me to my inner self.
I intend to start working with the 10 factors and Spirituality is the deepest one for me. I too love ACIM. We are on Unity's Prayer hotline. Also love Lissa Rankin and any number of books and meditation recordings.
Although I would also love to be doing exercise - like qigong or Tai Chi. I have Advanced Metastatic Bone Cancer and I am lacking the strenth to be up and moving other than getting up with the walker to move to the bathroom
I love the Intuition Factor and each morning as I do my meditation and prayers I practice using my intuition. I try to open up to the signs, omens and messages from the Universe/God and from myself. Listening in the quiet is important but also recognizing when the Universe sends a message your way in the form of a hawk flying overhead or a random wild turkey making an appearance on a suburban street corner (yes, it's happened). I look at these as messages for me to pay attention to! For me it's a constant practice to TRUST my intuition! Especially when I feel I'm getting conflicting messages!
True for me too Karla. I am always amazed that when I step away from "my world," the "Universe" (for me it's God) sends me a message, via a yellow bird or sometimes a blue butterfly. I feel so grateful and blessed when I pay attention and find the meaning I am searching for. Learning to trust the meaning of the messenger is a practice.
@Solange Klingensmith signs and messages are everywhere. I begin each day with asking, 'What messages do I need to know today?' Asking this way opens it up to infinite possibilities for the messages to reach me (through any of my senses).
I love your perspective, Karla, signs and wonders are all around us - happy guides if we trust and follow where they lead us.
I love deepening spirituality so much. For me Spirituality encompasses so many of the healings factors like intuition, social support and releasing suppressed emotions. I am a lifelong learner studying ‘everything‘ metaphysics and what science hasn’t proven YET! My go to books on my journey include Lissa Rankin‘s Mind Over Medicine, as so many others have already noted, Radical Remission with Kelly Turner, of course, and I especially love the simplicity Anita Moorjani teaches in Dying to be Me. There are so many signs, synchronicities and miracles around us—we just have to notice them!
'Dying to be Me' was life-altering for me, I plan on reading it annually to be reminded of the simplicity of her message. LOVE.
Agree 100% on all your book choices!
@Tara Flanagan I’ve had the opportunity of a couple classes with Anita that were amazing! As she puts it, in its most simple terms, life is all about learning to love yourself completely.
💕
I love to read the poems and meditations from The Book of Awakening, by Mark Nepo.
I love Mark Nepo's writing. He writes sentences that are like poetry and you know the words shared have come from a source greater than himself. This is one of my favorite lines from Seven Thousand Ways to Listen. "As a soul on Earth, this is all we can hope for, to feel the light and being of all time course though our viens while we blossom."
@Cheryl McCartney One of my favorite books.
Great book!
Hi Solange! Just looking at the cover of his book relaxes me. I'd love to read his works.
Thank you for that suggestion, Solange. The subtitle describes a recent intention of mine which draws me in to this book.
Where science and spiritual practice meets is very interesting to me. Dawn Clark’s work has been practical staple for me. She has several online programs for releasing toxic emotions and healing. She has been funded through NIH and physicists at Stanford University have studied her work. I really appreciate that everything I am doing and reading is a part of a spiritual practice. From what I eat, drink, say and think. I have always known this to be true and now I have to practice it.
Echoing all of this!
It's so hard to pick just one! My favorite factor is absolutely Increasing Positive Emotions. For me, working on all the factors contributes to increasing my positive emotions overall. Some things I do to practice this daily is reading (autobiographical or inspiring books like RR) laughter, music & singing. I always feel happier when I am singing and naturally do this throughout the day but on days when I am not feeling a natural burst into song moment, then I will put on a favorite song and become a back up singer which helps me shift towards releasing suppressed emotions and lean back toward increasing my positive emotions.
It is hard to pick one, Angelina! I'm with you - I value laughter in my day, every day. And belly laughs if you can find them are the best! I love that you sing - I do the music thing, too. Music can increase my energy in an instant. I like to pair fun music with jumping on my mini trampoline to get my lymphatics going and mood, too!
Love your words about laughter, music and singing. In fact right now I am listening to an online spiritual concert. I have been pulling up music on YouTube. Sometimes it is relaxing brainwave music. Sometimes I am looking for words to sing childhood songs.
Yes to music, Angelina! Thank you for the inspirational songs you have shared with me over the past couple years- they mean a lot to me and when I need a pick me up, that's my go to! thanks! I can't sing well, but I love to try! Mostly listening and dancing is what helps me promote positive emotions!
I admire your ability to open your mouth ajoyful beautiful sound come out. In my case, I open my mouth and something comes out but it’s a bit more disharmonious. I love music though and I think singing and making music and dancing to music is one of the most joyful things we can do to inspire positive emotions.
Lynn, Yay for Dancing-YES! I absolutely agree that music can be a very powerful way to inspire joy. Though I never considered myself very musical, learning to play music is something I took up a few years ago and most recently looking have been looking at learning Harp, which allows the instrument to sing on ones behalf so as to have another option for bringing more music into daily life. I'm also intrigued by Singing Bowls! Music has so many facets and opportunities for healing- I think thats part of the beauty, there are so many unique ways we can connect with it that works for us individually. :)
I believe that singing on or off key is of no consequence. What is important is to feel the joy. Love to hear more about your learning the Harp
@Bunny Sjogren I LOVE that you pointed that out -it is so true. Your comment immediately reminded me of when I took an Art class to learn how to paint (watercolor/acrylic/oil) as an adult -just a few years ago! I've never considered myself very creatively gifted and have jokingly said that I picked up my art skills/talent right where I left off in the 3rd grade. Actually I'm pretty sure some 3rd graders have more talent BUT the beauty of the whole experience that Art class really taught me- a recovering perfectionist- is that the end result was not so important. For me, it was and IS more about the feeling of Joy and learning how to enjoy the process. Once I reframed it with that intention, I think my art may have gotten a little better too but even if it didnt, I am much happier for all of it. :)
Absolutely, Angelina. I had an uncle with Alzheimer’s and I was aware of the power of music to help Alzheimer’s individuals, wake up so to speak when they heard music from their time. He used to sway & smile when he heard songs that spoke to his heart. Music is a powerful emotional connection, I think it’s a very strong factor in helping us heal and Thrive with cancer. 💜
Music is so powerful. When my mother was in the last days of her life - we would still enjoy bringing music in to her care facility and we would sing.
Lynn, thank you for sharing a beautiful story about how music has touched your life. I feel the different healing factors that support our healing may vary at times depending where we are in our journey. For me, music has always been a constant - I just notice the songs change, literally, depending on where I am. I jokingly call myself a professional car singer and proud of it. LOL
@Lynn Haldy I feel music is medicine. Changes our chemistry instantly...miraculous, the healing power of sound. I have a question ...if you ( or anyone) had to select one (or two songs) that would be your own personal anthem on this healing journey, what would it be? And what is the major message in it for you?
I love to chant mantras along with devapremalmiten. I find their voices, messages of healing, peace, and transformation so uplifting. I have listened to their mantras all through my various stages of going through treatments and recovery. You can find their music everywhere if you type in on google and now they are doing a live chanting on instagram daily for about 45minutes. replays on youtube https://youtu.be/mR1s0iUmQP8
This is a great resource @Leslie Peake I feel like any type of meditative sound reverberating through my body has such benefits and kicks in my relaxation response!
Following Intuition is DEFINITELY 100% my favorite factor. Its something I've had a keen sense of all of my life, and this time of my life - with the challenges/hurdles personally and in society are allowing me to utilize this fully. It's also led me to this workshop, and to the incredible people I've met sharing these journeys.
@Alethia McNeely I think it's true what they say about the more we practice using our intuition muscle, the stronger it gets - or maybe it always was but it's that awareness that's key. It's awesome that it's your favorite factor! It's a great one to live by.
My favorite is deepening my spirituality, followed by listening to my intuition. I practice mindfulness meditations, create my own meditations and then listen back to them which I've found really resonates with me. I do this daily, morning and evening. I also practice movement, sometimes my own free form or Qigong, or yoga. This gets me in touch with my body and connects me to the bigger Universe and quantum field. My body can ground and center me in the world and feel a deeper spiritual connection.
I also love to read inspiring and spiritually focused books. Two that came to mind this morning and were the first two books I read once I found out I had cancer were by Dr. Bernie Siegel, Peace, Loving and Healing: the path to self-healing and Love, Medicine, and Miracles. These are timeless books full of inspiring stories and so much hope. The stories are about people like us from the 80's who are full of life and on the journey with open hearts!
Leslie, we sound like kindred spirits. I look forward to hearing more from you! 💕
LOVE this book! Full of information and helped restore my faith in our ability to heal our bodies and move forward, despite discouraging attitudes, beliefs, and doubts that can come from others.
Yes! And also taught me to keep my story clean, meaning telling myself a positive story to promote health and healing, not letting the monkey brain cycle in fear. Living with a positive outlook, true intention (the motivation behind your actions and choice in words), and surrounding yourself with only those that see you as whole and healing is crucial. Great wisdom!
